Oh, the people, places, and things that shape our lives

When you stop to reflect on where you are now (in life, relationships, hobbies) and where you want to be - what thoughts arise? What are you celebrating about yourself during that time of reflection? It is such a wonder, a miracle that we are all so uniquely created. This human shape we all share does not predict shared experiences that also result in shared positive outcomes. We all know that by now - but let’s give one another and ourselves some grace and gratitude so we might easily breathe out the people, places and things that have impact how we are shaped.

In fact, let’s do that right now. Together, breathe in your reflection and breathe out all the past people, places, and things that have shaped our lives. Ready? Go ahead. Now, let’s concentrate on one positive person, place or thing that shaped one of your decisions and led you to a positive outcome. Breathe in your reflection, breathe out gratitude and once more breathe in joy. Let that joy settle within you.

The tricky part of considering the things that shape us is we might begin to identify variables that were taught to us, that forced us to live in a certain shape that just was not designed for us. This can bring up a desire to strip off that experience (misguided teaching, unhealthy relationship), that mis assigned responsibility and ultimately begin to pursue our own shape.

There is hope! Using mindfulness strategies can enable each of us to pursue our shape with a deep seeded relationship with who we are right now. Mindfulness can help us live each day with grace and gratitude - a key ingredient to Powerfully living. Another foundation that we can call on is our health. I love to explore all the different WAYS we can pursue our health by teaching people how to practice habits of emotional, spiritual, physical, intellectual, social, occupational, and environmental wellness.

Next time you are eager to shed off the shapes that someone has assigned to you I hope you will rely on grace, gratitude, and loving questions to shift yourself in a direction that feels most like you. When you are ready to shed off that mis assigned responsibility and have more harmony turn to the hope that you can restore your power. Keep asking yourself, “How is this person, place or thing I am encountering today, in this moment, adding value to my life?” and “Does it align with where I am now as well as where I want to be?”. Seek opportunities that serve you, that allow you to pursue you so you can feel more harmony and celebrate more wins.
