Is group travel for you?
Is group travel for you?
I don't believe group travel is for everyone.
There, I said it ;)
Last fall, I was a guest on a retreat and while I had a lovely time, I can now confirm that group travel is not for me.
While I loved not having to make all of the decisions, I like being on my own schedule. Sleeping in and rolling out of bed when I feel like it feels like the ultimate luxury that I enjoy indulging in while on vacation.
I also like moving around a bit and avoiding lots of long car rides. Having more than one home base per trip allows me to see more of the area and spend far less time in the car driving to and from excursions from one central location. I know from hosting retreats that it can be difficult to have more than one home base when traveling in a larger group.
And I very much enjoy alone time. And the quiet.
I often work at home in complete silence, no music, no podcast, just the occasional barking dog.
I really love hosting retreats, it’s work that lights me up, and connecting with guests is always my favorite part, but being in a large group still feels like work to me.
And sometimes you need the opposite of your work to feel rejuvenated.
I’m still down for a retreat in the future.
I plan to take a silent one.
I plan to take one where I stay on some majestic beach and my only obligation is a morning surf lesson and a daily yoga class.
I plan to sign up for a writer’s retreat someday.
And I would definitely sign up for an artist retreat where the only thing on the itinerary was a daily class teaching me how to draw or paint. Doesn't that sound dreamy?
If you don’t care what time you roll out of bed as long as someone is telling you when and where to be because not having to make decisions feels like the ultimate luxury, then a retreat is for you.
If you love chatting up a new friend and taking in the scenery while someone else takes the wheel, then a retreat is for you.
If you love hanging in a group of inspirational women, then a retreat is definitely for you.
I am only hosting 3 times next year. Space is very limited.
