Getting Older and Hopefully Wiser 😉
Getting Older and Hopefully Wiser 😉
This month marks my 38th trip around the sun as well as Wandering Roots 4th birthday. I have always referred to my business getting older as a birthday and not an anniversary on purpose. I feel like births are when you are brought into and put out into the world where as anniversaries are when you signed up for something or someone. Just like my first birthday was wildly different than my first wedding anniversary, my past work anniversaries for previous employers are vastly different than this entrepreneur journey that I’ve been on for the last 4 years. Yes, it’s been a whole lot harder but it’s also been way more personal. Even before I was self-employed, I’ve always cared a lot about my work so it’s not that I’m trying harder. Nope. The difference is that now it hurts more when I fail and feels even better when I get it right (or get lucky, let’s be honest).
When you create a business, you’re providing a solution to a problem you’ve experienced personally. Most entrepreneurs that I know in the wellness industry suffered a trauma and burned their comfortable life down because they realized it wasn’t for them. Then they came out on the other side to find that they were living a life that they loved. And despite all of the shit they had to go through to get there, they would do it again because it was absolutely, totally worth it. And then they created a product or service to help others in a similar situation because we all have bleeding hearts and want the best for humankind. That’s why it hurts so much when your product or service doesn’t sell. It's personal. It’s deeper than clients not liking your offer. It feels like they don’t like you.
Of course, when you get older and wiser you realize that you aren’t for everyone. And that’s perfectly ok. And the more confident you get in who you are and who you are for, the better your business and ultimately your life will be.
For everyone Wandering Roots has been for, thank you. Without you, we would have run out of money and closed shop a long time ago. For everyone who me and my brand have not been for, thank you. Without you, we wouldn’t be clear about our clients and our mission.
In life and in business, I consider birthdays a blessing. They are something we are not guaranteed and when you’re living a life you love, you hope for more time to keep doing the things you truly love.
So friend, now it’s your turn. What is one step you can take to living a life you love?
