My (first) Year of YES - part 3

My (first) Year of YES!

Part 3

Practicing yoga everyday and booking a shoot with the insanely talented Mod Bettie were the largest investments I made in myself by saying yes in 2016.  These experiences ultimately led me to have the courage to start a landscaping company (shameless plug: it’s Red Cedar Landscapes and my husband is ridiculously talented, so proud!)

In March of 2017, my husband and I started our very first entrepreneurial venture together and it was all of the things.  No really, all of the things.  Delighted, terrified, empowered, and defeated were just a few of the feelings that I endured in those first few months.  I not only learned a ton about running your own business but I also learned a lot about myself in the process.  We made several mistakes but I believe your failures are your best teachers.  There were multiple sleepless nights where I would lie awake telling myself that we had made a terrible decision but I’m grateful I didn’t let those thoughts get the best of me and that we kept moving forward.

That entire year of trial and error gave me the confidence to create Wandering Roots.  This new endeavor has also been all of the things, but harder and easier than creating Red Cedar Landscapes.  I felt nervous without having my best friend (my husband) as a partner with our sole focus being this venture.  He’s still an incredible sounding board and my biggest cheerleader but we also have multiple other responsibilities that demand his attention.  However, because the people we have leaned on this past year have become our closest friends and are now a text or a phone call away when I need support, the transition into this journey has been breezier.  It really does take a village and I’m so grateful for mine.  They are the best people I know.  So whenever I wonder if this crazy idea was a bad idea, I focus on how this work has lit me up in ways that nothing has before.  I focus on all of the positive experiences and personal growth...and that’s enough for me.

If you’re facing something that seems too hard or stressful, consider telling yourself these truths instead:

“I can do it!”

“I am enough.”

“I’m tougher than I think I am.”

“What is the worst that can happen, (like really)?”

If none of these resonate with you, reach out for help, I am here if you need me!
